Research Analyst

AdvanceCT, a nonprofit working to grow the Connecticut economy through job creation and investment, in partnership with the business community and the state, is hiring a Research Analyst to support our business attraction, retention and expansion mission. This position is based in our New Haven office but offers the opportunity for some remote work. It calls for collaboration with our leadership partners, including the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and Office of the Governor.

Position Description

The Research Analyst will be an integral part of the Research team, gathering data, conducting research and analysis, preparing and delivering reports and presentations, and providing thought leadership on economic and business trends. Examples of projects include: 

  • Business intelligence and financial statement analysis 
  • Industry trend and supply chain analysis 
  • Labor market assessments: labor shed, workforce availability, comparative wages 
  • Data development and presentation to support business cases 
  • Statewide economic performance 
  • Benchmarking and best practice studies of economic programs and incentives  

Candidate Qualifications

We are seeking strategic problem solvers with proven analytical capabilities, interest in deep data dives and excellent communication skills. A Bachelor’s Degree in economics, finance, or a related field and at least 4 years of analyst or similar experience or an advanced degree is preferred. A working knowledge of relevant data sources, software, and programming skills (e.g. STATA, MATLAB, R, pandas, Python), and fluency with Excel and PowerPoint are desirable. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate conclusions are key. Experience in economic or investment research is helpful, but all data-oriented individuals are encouraged to apply.
